How do I prepare for the arrival of my puppy?

Getting a new puppy is a really exciting time, they are really great pets for most people but it’s important to be as prepared as possible for the arrival of your new furry friend.
You’ll need to make sure you have:
  1. A dog bed
  2. Puppy food (if you’re switching your puppies food from what they’ve been fed by the breeder, you need to do this over a number of weeks)
  3. Food and water bowls
  4. Plenty of dog toys
  5. A dog collar and ID tag
  6. A lead and harness
You may also want to get some of the following optional products:
  1. Dog crate
  2. Dog blankets
  3. Grooming products
  4. Supplements
We also put together a more in-depth guide on how to prepare for your new puppy’s arrival in our blog.

Your questions answered (FAQs)

A good breeder should be getting your puppy used to going to the toilet outside (or in one place) so to continue this, put down puppy pads to catch any accidents and regularly let your dog outside to go to the bathroom. If they go, it’s recommended you reward them with positive reinforcement.
To start to train your dog on other tricks and boundaries, it’s easier to start with rewarding them for good behaviour with treats. If your dog isn’t good motivated, reward them with play or affection instead.
Because you tend to want to focus on training with a puppy, you may find that you’re giving them a large amount of treats which could end with them putting on weight or not getting the nutrition they really need. Low calorie treats are a great option, or alternatively use their kibble and take that out of their daily allowance.
We stock a wide variety of puppy dog treats so you’re guaranteed to find something for your puppy with love.
