Your questions answered (FAQs)

We’d recommend purchasing a collar regardless of whether you use it on your walks because you can attach ID tags in case your dog gets lost. Using a collar on a walk may give you more control and require less physical strength due to the fact it’s attached to your dog’s neck.
That being said, if your dog pulls or gets excited on a walk we’d recommend using a harness, this is because you can avoid any throat injuries caused by pulling on the lead and it’s typically more comfortable for dogs. Harnesses also tend to be more secure as your dog is less likely to slip out of them.
Typically we find that smaller dogs tend to be walked on collars and larger dogs with more pulling potential are walked with harnesses.
Your dog will need a number of different leads during its life. If your dog is a puppy we’d recommend getting a short and narrow lead that is light and allows you control during your walks, once you’re ready to start practising recall, we’d also recommend a long lead.
If your dog is fully grown, the right lead for you will depend on a number of factors. If your dog regularly goes on off-lead walks, the length of the lead may not matter as your dog only wears it to/from the park. However, if your dog is walked on a lead, a retractable lead will allow your dog to roam and explore on walks whilst still being controlled by you.
