What are the different types of fish food?

Dry Food

Whilst flakes might be the most popular form of dry food, it can also come in pellet or granules form.

Frozen Food

You can also get frozen food, which is typically either shrimp, bloodworms, plankton or mussels.

Live Food

For some larger carnivorous species, you may want to feed them live food. This could include ghost shrimp or feeder fish.

Greens

If your fish are herbivores or just love eating their aquarium plants, you could add some greens into their feeding schedule. Such as cucumber, lettuce and spinach, but make sure to fasten or attach them to the side of the tank and remove any uneaten food within 24 hours.

Your questions answered (FAQs)

Whilst each species will vary as a general rule of thumb, most fish thrive from eating 2-3 small meals a day. Healthy fish should always be hungry and all food should be eaten within a few minutes of being placed in the tank.
If your fish don’t seem hungry, check the tank water as this could be a sign of wrong ammonia or nitrate levels.
