Your questions answered (FAQs)

The best dog food depends on your dog’s age, breed, activity level, and any health conditions. At Dec’s Pets, we recommend NODENS for Irish dogs – it’s formulated specifically for our climate and uses quality protein sources. For puppies, look for AAFCO-approved growth formulas. For senior dogs, choose lower-calorie options with joint support ingredients like glucosamine. Always transition gradually over 7-10 days.

Grain-free dog food can benefit dogs with grain sensitivities or allergies, but it’s not necessary for all dogs. Grains like rice and oats provide valuable nutrients and energy. If your dog shows signs of food intolerance (itching, digestive issues, ear infections), consult your vet before switching. Our grain-free range uses sweet potato and legumes as alternative carbohydrate sources.

Dogs that are fed a commercial diet should not require vitamin supplements because the food is designed to meet your dog’s requirements however, if your dog is being fed homemade food or raw fed, we’d recommend including supplements as part of that diet to ensure they’re getting all the nutrients they need to live a happy and healthy life.

Feeding amounts vary by weight, age, and activity level. As a general guide: small dogs (5-10kg) need 100-200g daily, medium dogs (10-25kg) need 200-400g, and large dogs (25kg+) need 400-800g. Always check the feeding guide on your specific food’s packaging and adjust based on your dog’s body condition. Split into 2 meals for adult dogs, 3-4 for puppies.

Yes, Dec’s Pets delivers nationwide across Ireland with free delivery on orders over €45. Orders typically arrive within 1-2 business days. We also offer a Subscribe & Save service where you can save 5% and schedule automatic deliveries so you never run out of dog food.

A: Dry dog food (kibble) is more economical, helps dental health, and stays fresh longer. Wet dog food contains more moisture (helping hydration), is more palatable for picky eaters, and is easier to digest. Many owners feed a combination – dry food as the base with wet food as a topper or mixer. This provides variety while maintaining nutritional balance.
