Your questions answered (FAQs)

For the most part, the choice of material is mainly down to personal preference however there are perks to each one.

Stainless Steel Bowls

Stainless steel is very durable and easy to clean, making it a perfect material for a dog bowl. Most stainless steel bowls come with a rubber ring around the bottom to prevent it from slipping and moving whilst your dogs are using it.

Plastic Bowls

A plastic doc is a lightweight and cheap option, meaning it can be easily moved around and used when travelling. Plastic dog bowls are also easy to clean and come in a variety of different sizes and colours. If your dog likes to chew their bowl, be careful because it’s not good for dogs to ingest any.

Ceramic Bowls

Ceramic bowls are very popular because they’re heavy and durable, making them harder for dogs to move around as they eat. This causes them to eat slower whilst also preventing any spillages. Ceramic bowls come in a variety of sizes and colours ensuring that you’ll find one to suit your dog’s need

When deciding where to put your dog’s bowl, aim to find somewhere with privacy. Your dog deserves somewhere to enjoy their meals in peace. If the area is busy it could cause your dog to eat its food much quicker than needed or it could result in dogs becoming protective and possessive around the food bowl. You should also avoid putting your dog’s food too close to its bed because it can act as a distraction. One of the most important factors is that your dog’s bowls remain in the same place, that way they know where to go if they’re hungry or thirsty.

Depending on the material of the dog bowl, we’d always recommend a dog placement mat. This stops the bowl from moving around and allows the area to be easily cleaned.
If your dog(s) are larger breeds it’s also essential to have dog bowl stands, these come in either single or double varieties and help raise the food to a level that’s more comfortable for larger dogs. This also helps prevent dogs from being sick because it stops food from travelling back down the oesophagus, which can lead to a twisted stomach.
If your dog eats very quickly, they may choke on their food or be sick, in these cases we’d recommend buying a slow feeder bowl.
