How to use it

1. Make sure the test tube is clean.
2. Fill it with a 5ml water sample.
3. Shake the Nitrate-1 bottle upside down until no sediment remains.
4. Add 6 drops of Nitrate-1 and 6 drops of Nitrate-2.
5. Cap the tube and shake well.
6. Wait 10 minutes, then compare the colour to the scale.

A colourless sample means zero nitrate. Any hint of pink means nitrate is present.

Keeping nitrate low

Regular water changes are the best way to keep nitrate down. They dilute the build-up. In addition, live plants use up nitrate, which leaves less for algae. Your tap water also matters. Most supplies carry a small amount of nitrate already. Test a fresh sample to see your starting point.

Reading your results

This kit reports nitrate as nitrogen (NO3-N). To see the ionic nitrate figure, multiply your result by 4.43.
