Your questions answered (FAQs)

Whilst some dogs may require their fur to be trimmed regularly, especially those with long or thick fur. Dogs that have hair around their eyes will also need it trimmed back regularly to prevent irritation.
If your dog has doubled coated fur (such as golden retrievers, samoyeds or huskies) their fur should only be clipped if there is matting. If you suspect your double coated dog may need its fur clipped, we recommend visiting a trusted dog groomer who can assess the situation properly.
If your dog has short haired fur, it’s unlikely you would ever need to clip it’s fur. Instead, regular brushing and raking the undercoat should be enough to keep its fur healthy.
We always recommend you bathe your dog first, that way you remove any dirt and build up that may be in the fur and it also prevents your equipment from dulling as quickly.
Light to medium clippers can typically be used on all breeds and coat types. They can be used on puppies before they get their adult coat or for all body trimming on adult dogs with a light or thin coat. If your dog has a light to medium coat, a medium to heavy duty clipper may be more suitable. Heavy duty clippers are suitable for dogs with thick, double, mixed texture coats.
If you accidentally cut your dog’s skin whilst clipping, wash the wound with saline and then put a compress on to help stop the bleeding. Once the bleeding has stopped and a clot has been formed, dab a little bit of antiseptic ointment on the wound to help prevent infection.
If the wound is large, or won’t stop bleeding, always get in touch with your vet who will be able to give you more in depth advice.
